In 2006 she co-founded BerkShares, the local currency of the Massachusetts Berkshires, issued one-to-one through participating banks and accepted at hundreds of businesses. Her four decades of work pairing citizen-issued money with community land trusts and community-supported agriculture made the Berkshires a living laboratory for decentralized economics.
