Senegalese development economist and one of the sharpest critics of the CFA franc, the French-backed currency still used across fourteen African countries. Co-author of Africa's Last Colonial Currency: The CFA Franc Story, he serves as Africa Regional Director for Research and Policy at International Development Economics Associates and co-initiated the Conference on African Monetary and Economic Sovereignty. His work argues that political independence remains incomplete until African nations control their own money.
