Mayor of Wörgl, Austria, who in 1932 turned Gesell's stamp scrip from theory into the most-studied monetary experiment of the 20th century. The Wörgl scrip cut local unemployment by a quarter in a year before being shut down by the Austrian central bank. Every modern Gesellian project still measures itself against Wörgl.
