Makoto Nishibe

Evolutionary economist at Senshu University and a leading theorist of community currencies, which he treats as institutional designs that let communities issue their own money. He ran pioneering local-currency circulation experiments in Hokkaido, translated Hayek into Japanese, and delivered the keynote at the 2019 RAMICS congress on monetary innovation. His recent work includes The Age of Post-National Currency (2021) and the 2026 paper Scientists' Warning on Money, which argues for a plurality of interlocking monies beyond the nation-state.
