Maen Alaraj researches why digital community currencies stop circulating and what makes them move again. The work groups users into customized communities, so that a currency stays among people who actually trade with each other, and it sets out a currency as a service platform that lets a town issue and run its own money. Alaraj works at Global Communication Planning in Japan and is a researcher in the Good Money Lab, the community currency group led by Makoto Nishibe. The results appear in the Evolutionary and Institutional Economics Review and at RAMICS congresses from 2019 onward.
