Co-initiator of the Chiemgauer, Germany's largest regional currency, which he launched in 2003 with his students at a Waldorf school in Bavaria and which still circulates over a million units across three districts. As chief executive of the Regios cooperative he built the e-Chiemgauer electronic payment system and has shaped the spread of demurrage-charged regional money across Europe in the tradition of Silvio Gesell. He researches money democratization and leads the Climate Bonus project linking regional currency design to climate policy.
