Mein Grundeinkommen

Basic Income Experiment·active·Germany

Berlin nonprofit (founded 2014) that crowdfunds unconditional basic incomes and raffles them off — currently 25 year-long basic incomes per draw, funded by recurring small donors. Ran Germany's flagship scientific basic-income study with DIW Berlin (Pilotprojekt Grundeinkommen): 122 people received EUR 1,200/month for three years (2021–2024); results published April 2025 showed no labor-market withdrawal but significantly better mental health, covered by CNN and academic press. A follow-up study on group effects is planned for 2026. Evidence: official site live with 2026 raffles (mein-grundeinkommen.de), study site pilotprojekt-grundeinkommen.de, DIW Berlin project page (diw.de), CNN 2025-04-11.

M69 Verdict

Not a currency but the strongest running basic-income evidence machine in Europe: 12 years of crowdfunded unconditional cash, a rigorous 3-year RCT with DIW Berlin published in April 2025 (no work withdrawal, better mental health), and new research planned for 2026. Scores low on monetary categories by design; scores well on inclusivity and external recognition.

Detailed Rating Breakdown

Issuance Model3x
2.0

Issues no money of its own — it redistributes donated fiat EUR as unconditional cash. Distribution is fully debt-free (IM-02 strong) but there is no permissionless issuance, no link to real economic activity, and no supply elasticity; recipients are chosen by lottery.

Spending Power Stability2x
2.0

Rides the euro entirely; the project has no stability mechanism of its own (SPS-01 low). The EUR reference gives moderate real-world stability but purchasing-power drift is not addressed by the project.

Fiat Independence & Interoperability2x
1.0

Fully fiat: EUR-denominated donations in, EUR bank transfers out, dependent on German banking rails. No fiat-independence design or transition path.

Traction2x
3.0

Active since 2014 (TR-02 high) with ongoing 2026 raffles and an active team (TR-06). Strong external recognition: peer-reviewed DIW study, CNN and international coverage (TR-08 = 5). Organic crowdfunding base (TR-09 strong). But no merchants, no unit-of-account function (TR-05 = 1), which caps the category.

Sovereignty
1.0

A single German registered association using bank rails — trivially shut down by one regulator or its own board; custodial by nature; key-person and jurisdiction concentration all high.

Governance
2.0

Conventional nonprofit governance: decisions by a small team/board, no formal community governance; research methods and findings are transparently published, which lifts it above the floor.

Resilience
2.0

Twelve years of continuous operation and it survived COVID-era funding stress, but it depends on recurring donations (RE-07 ~3), a single organization, and German legal infrastructure; no redundancy or long-horizon design.

Inclusivity
4.0

Free, equal-odds participation and unconditional payouts with no strings (IN-05 = 5, IN-02 = 5); explicitly tests money-for-everyone (UBI-like, IN-07 = 4). Limited to Germany and requires registration plus a bank account (IN-01 = 3, IN-06 = 3).
