Marcus Petz researches local and community currencies. In June 2026 the University of Jyvaskyla published his Wisdom Letter with Teppo Eskelinen, which gives research-based advice to activists and public authorities setting up local currency systems. His earlier papers cover the rise and fall of the Bristol Pound, community currencies as a route to rural renewal, and money games as a way to test economic ideas. He is a co-author of the 2026 Scientists' Warning on Money, which calls for a wider mix of community currencies, timebanks and basic income.
