Gernot Jochum-Müller has built local exchange systems in Austria since 1996, when he co-founded Talente Vorarlberg, a mutual-credit network in the west of the country. In 2008 he set up the Allmenda cooperative, which runs regional currency systems for towns and local businesses. His current project is Zeitpolster, where volunteers earn hours for helping older people, families and people with disabilities, then draw those hours back when they need help themselves. Zeitpolster runs in seven Austrian regions and has opened in Liechtenstein and Germany, with four more Austrian regions starting in 2025 and 2026.
