La Brawette
La Brawette is the citizen currency of western Walloon Brabant, in Belgium, launched in 2021. One brawette equals one euro. A volunteer association runs it across six municipalities, including Nivelles, Waterloo and Braine-l'Alleud. More than ninety farmers, merchants, artisans and associations accept it.
Territorial euro-parity citizen currency for western Walloon Brabant: debt-free full-reserve issuance, ninety-plus accepting partners and a visibly active 2026, with no monetary sovereignty beyond the euro.

Detailed Rating Breakdown
Issuance Model3x4.0
Full-reserve voucher model: brawettes are issued only against euros, debt-free, with contraction via reconversion. Issuance is restricted to the ASBL and follows local exchange demand, not an economic index.
Spending Power Stability2x3.0
Pegged 1:1 to the euro with reserve backing, so stability equals euro stability. No mechanism addresses purchasing power beyond the fiat reference.
Fiat Independence & Interoperability2x1.0
Euro unit of account, euro reserves, no path away from fiat. Territorial euro-parity class ruling (run 126) applied.
Traction2x3.0
Launched summer 2021, more than 90 partners across six communes, active 2026 site (blog posts dated 2026-01-02 and 2026-06-03, an August 2026 event listed). Regional press coverage (TVcom) reports growing users and merchants. Young network, small user base, euro-quoted pricing.
Sovereignty2.0
Volunteer ASBL in a single Belgian jurisdiction; the association can halt the system. Paper vouchers give holders custody of what they hold.
Governance3.0
ASBL (no. 0745.406.101) grown out of the Braine-l'Alleud transition group, with Financité network support; formal nonprofit governance but small and informal in practice.
Resilience3.0
Five years of operation on volunteer energy with transition-network and Financité backing. No dedicated funding model; typical MLC fragility.
Inclusivity3.0
Open to any resident at 1:1, low cost, no identity requirement for paper use. Territorial by design.
