Beki
The Beki is the regional currency of the Redange canton in western Luxembourg. It launched in January 2013 and trades one to one with the euro. Residents pay with paper notes or the BekiPay app at local businesses, and every 100 euros converted earns 3 bonus Beki. The nonprofit De Kär runs the system to keep spending inside the canton.
Luxembourg's only regional currency: 13 years of euro-parity circulation in the Redange canton with paper notes and the BekiPay app, run by the De Kär nonprofit. Strong longevity and real merchant adoption for its size, weakened by full euro anchoring and a 2023 funding cut that stripped its paid staff.
